More Star Wars goodness-

The fact that anything good released or created for the Star Wars saga had very little George Lucas involvement is not lost on me. He is in that horrible Britney place where you are fully surrounded by people who continually gush at every shitty idea you have. Fortunately, those many nods agreed to let cartoon god Genndy Tartakovsky do his thing. The sheer enjoyment of this series dwarfed all post-jedi live action films for me.

Jumping on the 30th anniversary bandwagon...

We will hear more and more hoopla surrounding the 30th anniversary of Star Wars over the summer- like it or not hehe! But honestly- the film freak I am today is directly due to that movie, and specifically this scene. I vividly remember standing in line, holding my father's hand at age five- waiting to see Star Wars. I normally have a thoroughly shitty memory, especially from early childhood (wonder if I should delve into that sometime?!)- but if I close my eyes I am right back in that theater. This scene blew my mind and opened me up to the wonders of cinema. For that I will always be a George Lucas fan.

How much would an animated WW show rock?!

Ummmm- how cool is this?!

While I do wish that it was the JLA, I am still super stoked for the teamup of the Transformers and the New Avengers!! And thank god it's outside continuity! That way we get to see Cap and Optimus vs. Megatron and Dr. Doom!!!! Let the salivating begin!

Guess who y'all hehehehehe

Feel good Friday

MMMMMMMMM while hunting down Justin Mark's movies (see earlier geek post) I came across this video. Damn I wanna dance right now- every time I hear this song my ass starts shaking...

Remember this name...

It is like full on fanboy/girl Friday today! I want all of you geeks, fanboys, and those who love them to keep track of this man's name: JUSTIN MARKS. Who is he? He is apparently the luckiest geek to cash a paycheck these days- and is going to be playing a huge role in FANtasies for a few years to come. He is currently listed as the screenwriter for the movie adaptations of: Voltron, Street Fighter (not to be confused with the shitty Raul Julia film- and I sooooooo want to see a huge KO when the fight is over!!), Supermax (David Goyer's Green Arrow movie), and now- Masters of the Universe!!! I am trying to track down some of the short films that garnered such attention, so when I do I will post away!!

More Geek Ga Ga

George Lucas may be a full on asshole, but that doesn't stop me from going apeshit for all (well almost all) things Star Wars. Here is the first look at what they have in store for us next. A CGI Clone Wars TV series- and from the look of the characters, it is going to stick closely to the wonderful style first seen in the Tartakovsky Cartoon Network series. Those two shows- Part 1 and Part 2- were the best part of all of the post Jedi releases hands down. Well- aside from some terrific novels- Shatterpoint coming first to mind. So let's hope that they not only have the same look and feel, but are actually done without too much Lucas interference, and therefore have a chance at not sucking!!!

Great movie quote:

If Jesus came back and saw what's going on in His name, He'd never stop throwing up.

Leave me alone with a razor and...

ROBBBBBED

Further proof that American's really don't vote well, and that excellence is indeed a crime in our mediocre society- my final American Idol viewing saw this talented singer booted.

The Good, The Bad, and The Fugly

Three books make the Good pile this week. Nothing really great from any of them- and in fact, I wonder if they just seem good because the rest of the field was shiteous. Countdown is off to a commendable start. Nothing Earth shattering, but that is a good thing. I'd rather see this series have legs and not begin with a bang that it can't sustain. Hints casually dropped make it fun- I think for this series I am going to maintain a Rip Hunter chalkboard for everything that they dangle. It will be interesting to see where all of the different threads tie in to the DCU. JLA #9 adds it's share of hints to the overall WTF aspect of the DCU right now. More Legionnaires are found, but their overall mission is still questionable. The villians revealed and the Gorilla City involvement also could be interesting. JLA #9 did have the best line in comics this week: Red Arrow "... that's your best retort? Where'd you steal that, season three of 'Mama's Family?'" The lone Marvel good this week is the third installment of the Fallen Son arc. I didn't buy the first two, but after reading a friends copies I decided to try this one out. More FU Tony, fun with Clint, and with Heinberg keeping the Young Avengers in limbo- it's nice to see Patriot & Hawkeye in action anywhere.

As for the Bad this week- both are on my endangered list now. Mighty Avengers is a total mess- boring story, Altman style over talk without any Altman finesse. The art is so-so, the characters are not engaging to me at all. I was buying this series because I thought it would flesh out anything in New Avengers. Mistake. I will give it one more issue before deciding it's place on my Pull List. Same goes for Uncanny X-Men. Originally I had asked for all X-Titles to be placed on my Pull. After my recent purging, I wanted to see what I was missing in the X-Universe. I would have to say that after reading each title, this is my least favorite of all. That might have to do with me coming in at the tail end of a long arc- we shall see with the next two issues.

Finally the Fugs- All Star Batman and Robin is such shit I really want my money back. I have already posted it on Ebay, but doubt anyone would pay for it if they have seen it. Jim Lee's art is decent, but it's the horrible Frank Miller writing that turns my stomach. To hear Wonder Woman saying "Out of my way Sperm Bank" to some random man on the street? Sure these All Star titles are meant to be different versions of familiar characters, but what the fuck is wrong with Frank Miller? It has been exactly one year since the last issue of this series was on the shelves. And this is the script that took a year?! My 1st graders showed more growth in their writing over the course of a year. I am so over this series. Quoth the raven- Nevermore. Same goes for the other Fug- Marvel's long awaited Ultimates 2 series finale. It's been so long since the last issue came out that I had no clue what the fuck was going on. Good art- awful story. It's too bad, this series actually started out fairly interesting and was my initial foray into the Ultimate universe. What a letdown. And then there was Supergirl. There are currently so many WILDLY different characterizations of Supergirl in the DCU it's like she has multiple personality disorder. In the Legion title, she is kind of dim, very pleasant, and a full on Ass kicker. This title has shown her to be all of those things, but also a whiny, scared, malevolent wimp. This one is off my list now. I think the character has tons of potential, but I can't sit around watching it wasted anymore in this title. I look forward to her addition to the Titans- hopefully Sean McKeever can rescue the poor girl!!

Next week looks much more promising- another Countdown, Wonder Woman 9, Birds of Prey, X-Men (building to something huge for issue 200), and Supergirl and the Legion.

Quiz Time

Take the "Hitler or Coulter Quiz" cause it's a hoot! I didn't do so well- but then again, as twisted as I have ever been- I haven't really developed a taste for the awful Fox News Channel. White House television isn't my cup of tea!

HISTORY OF HEART CHALLENGES

I know that it doesn't really say much for me that I am giddy over someone collapsing- but come on- it's Jerry "The Gays are to be blamed for EVERYTHING" Falwell!! CNN and other "news" outlets are reporting that the piece of shit was found unconscious and in "gravely serious condition"!!! They go on to quote one of his henchmen that Rev. Scumbag has a "history of heart challenges"- hmmm is that like how I don't have a BMW I have had a serious of BMW Challenges? More (good) news to follow?!

And just to get your juices flowing- here are some choice Falwell quotes!!

After the September 11, 2001, attacks Falwell said on the 700 Club, "I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way, all of them who have tried to secularize America. I point the finger in their face and say 'you helped this happen.'"

As for homosexuality, Falwell remarked, "AIDS is the wrath of a just God against homosexuals." Falwell's ghostwriter, Mel White, said Falwell remarked about gay protesters, "Thank God for these gay demonstrators. If I didn't have them, I'd have to invent them. They give me all the publicity I need."

UPDATE: Jerry Falwell has indeed shit the bed!! I would type more- but I am in a hurry to go celebrate! Seriously- I think that right about now- if his faith was correct for some crazy reason- he is getting his ass chewed out from some lower saint before being kicked downstairs for an eternity of sweating!!

This is a crappy picture of the new art I bought at Jazzfest!

Slowly returning to "normal"

This past Sunday was such a perfect Jazzfest day that I have barely landed back in the real world. Sure it was hot as Hades. Crowded? What?! We got there prior to the opening of the gates to secure the best spot possible. We totally scored a great location, spread out our blanket- added the contraband kahlua to our Cafe Du Monde iced coffee, and prepped ourselves for the day. First off- Wanda Rouzan and the New Orleans Experience. Woof- Wanda got the party started! She is such a blast! Totally got me amped for a day of dancing. Then came Frankie Ford. This man is too much. This old queen, all dolled up and telling filthy jokes. I was in stitches as he rambled on about whatever popped through his medicated haze. Even danced a jig with my mother to "Sea Cruise" hehe! Then the man, the myth, the legend- my new friend Allen Toussaint graced the audience with his talent. If I hadn't already been drunk, I would have been intoxicated from his performance.

Then- my true moment of zen, or jaeger, or whatever you want to call it. From the opening of Steely Dan's set I was in heaven. The music I have loved so much in my room, my car, my life- was being played in front of me. To say that they were perfect would be to undervalue the experience. Hearing "Do It Again" live only solidified my opinion that it is indeed one of the best songs ever written.

My high never had a chance to lessen as Harry Connick, Jr. hit the stage. Getting the crowd to dance like Mardi Gras Day- he and the band even had me crying at one point. Sure I was tripping a bit from the mushroom someone handed me- but it was still wonderful!

I am sure to share more stories from the fest, but had to quickly share my mind's soundtrack for now!!

Day 4

It was a wet and wild one! More than a few "If Katrina couldn't wash this city away, a few inches of rain isn't going to bother Jazzfest!" type jokes were overheard!! I was totally prepared: big umbrella, plastic poncho, cute new boots- and a desire for fun! As you will see from the picture- Superman hit the fest! Several times I was stopped and asked "Superman- can't you do something about the weather?!" I told all who asked that since it was so hot last weekend, I wanted it a bit rainy! Btw- ZZ Top- kicks ass! They were so much fun- blasting out the tunes, cracking each other up, and getting the crowd whipped up. Those dudes look older than dirt, then again, they never did look very young! Interesting ZZ facts: Formed in 1969- by the same three members still in the band! All three were born in 1949. Jimi Hendrix often spoke of the two guitarists as the most talented he'd ever met. Up until September of 2006- not only were they the same members from the beginning, they also had the same manager from the get go as well!! How rare is that?! Fun Fun Fun!!!
Today is much better weather-wise. My mother and her husband join the crew! Hoping to hear- Morning 40 Federation, Galactic, Nicholas Payton, John Legend, and then close out the day with The Allman Brothers!! Stay tuned!!

I taste just like candy- do you?

Oooh don't let me start loving myself! Part 2

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM I am so willing to go to jail for stalking this man! Of course, I am sure that when we finally meet he will fall head over heels...

New hat- jury is out

I am thinking about adding this hat to my outfit for my cousins wedding- but I think it might be a little too big. Just big enough to go from- hmmm was he in "the godfather" to was he in "witness". might look for a smaller version!!
